Day 2 in China

We were blocked from using blogger or facebook so I am posting some emails we sent from China. We had to be very careful in what we were writing by email because other families were being forbidden to use email as well. Here is our China story as we lived it.

We are day 2 in China, having just arrived yesterday and having received Wyatt shortly thereafter. Although he still cries from time to time as he grieves for severed relationships, he now plays with his cars and tractors, is eating food and gives us a smile now and then when we play with him. His fear seems to be lessening quickly. His orphanage was a good home for him the past 3 years and he became very attached to his nannies. He asks for "ahyee" which means "Auntie" in Mandarin (which
is what he called the nannies.) We have learned that they spoiled him so that he is used to throwing a major tantrum to get his way. We were told he is "head strong and
spoiled" and a favorite of the nannies. This is very good news actually since it
means he had special care and love. He seems to have a sweet disposition and loves to be held. He's also pretty physically active - like boys are.

He has adjusted beautifully to having a cleft palate. He can eat pretty much anything any way he chooses. He's very independent with going to the potty and meeting his own needs but seeks to be within hands reach of us out in public. One thing that tickled me is that he walks just like Mike. Mike's been teased by us from time to time about the way he walks and here Wyatt is walking besides him in exactly the same way. Too funny.

Mike and I are still recovering from our trip and jet lag but are doing well. I'm on
imodium AD and Cipro for a stomach bug already. I guess I drank water I shouldn't have the first day in China. KK - LOL

We are now done with our first round of appointments and paperwork and will hang around Fuzhou, Fujian Province until next Thursday evening when we'll fly to Guangzhou for the next round of appointments and paperwork. Fuzhou is a very beautiful, large city (7 million) with very large mountains all around and the Pacific Ocean close by. Tomorrow we're going to a panda habitat and breeding center and also to a Chinese tea house.

Half way around the world, our thoughts and prayers are with you. We mean it when we say you are awesome people and we appreciate all of you so much!

Please enjoy the pictures. The one of the 4 of us was taken with the Medical Director of Wyatt's orphanage after we legally adopted him. I could tell that she will really miss him.
